School Based Counseling (SBC)

children in schoolThe School Based Counseling program provides counseling services to students and their families who are referred by Paradise Unified School District. These services can be provided at eligible school sites, Youth for Change offices, and/or the student's homes. Individual, group and family sessions may be offered. Counselors may also provide psycho-education to classroom teachers to help them interact more effectively with their students.

The School Based Counseling program is a collaboration between: Youth for Change, Paradise Unified School District and the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health.

Purpose of Collaboration

To ensure that the best services are made available to children and their families. These services include individual, group and family counseling.

The School Based Counseling program surrounds children and their families with support and services.

School Based Counselors may work closely with the following individuals and groups to ensure the best services possible:

Who are the School Based Counselors?

School Based Counselors are Marriage Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Marriage Family Therapist Interns, or Social Work Interns. They are closely supervised by licensed clinical therapists.

School Based Counselors are placed at each school site. In addition, the counselors have an office within a Youth for Change office in Paradise. Counselors encourage families to visit them at the Youth for Change office.

Eligibility

Students served must be Medi-Cal eligible (Title IX).
