Hospital Alternatives Program (HAP)

Diverse GroupThe Hospital Alternatives Program (HAP) specially trained Clinicians and Behavioral Health Counselors provide comprehensive response and support services to youth who are in need of intensive services as an alternative to being hospitalized following a 5150 screening.

Response and Support Services

The HAP team responds immediately to the child/teen in crisis while at the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) or following a psychiatric hospitalization, and for 7 to 30 days, following an approved Managed Care Authorization from the CSU, the following may be provided:

A team is assembled at the family's request to include all identified formal supports (clinicians, counselors, educators, psychologist, physicians, etc.) and natural supports (family members, friends, coaches, community members, etc.) for a Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting. HAP is a collaboration between the Butte County Behavioral Health Crisis Stabilization Unit and Youth for Change. In order to receive HAP services, participants must receive full scope Medi-Cal and a referral must be made by the Butte County Crisis Stabilization Unit: 530-891-2999 or 1-800-334-6622
